Our FIRST project in a Residential and Long-Term Care Centre (CHSLD) in Montréal

Our foundation is pleased to announce its first project in Montréal.

On December 9th, the CHSLD Benjamin-Victor-Rousselot of the Montréal East Island Integrated University Health and Social Services Centre (MEI IUHSSC) brought Nature into its establishment in the form of a gardening activity.

This initiative was made possible thanks to the support and help of Ms. Joanie Doucet, coordinator of this CHSLD, her staff and some members of the Montréal Botanical Garden, Space for life.

This moving testimony by Ms. Joanie Doucet shows the joy that was given to the residents and the staff.

THANK YOU to everyone for your support and help!

(Translation of the original letter)

Montréal, 14 December, 2022

Mrs. Lafrenière,

I am very pleased to present to you the launch of our project:  For a greener CHSLD!

If you only knew the delight I felt when I started presenting the project to our teams.

Marie-Audrey Martineau-Labonté, Recreation technician, has been at the forefront of my efforts with you. She organized the planting activity with her colleague Eloise, Education Specialist.

The residents love the gardening activities in the summer, so imagine being able to do so in winter!

The first planting occurred this past December 9th in the morning. We had assembled seven residents to participate in the activity.  We were also visited by Olivier, Dainava and Joshua from the Montréal Botanical Garden, Space for life.

Under the guidance and enthusiasm of the Montréal Botanical Garden, Space for Life's team, we imbedded 8 different plants to 2 large raised indoor planters. This brought such pleasure to our residents!

Here are some of the reactions of the residents:

  • From a blind resident as she touched the soft texture of a new plant: “It’s wonderful to be able to garden indoors.”
  • Another resident said: “I’ve gardened all my life; it’s super to be able to do it in winter too.”
  • One resident who celebrated her 100th birthday in 2022 mentioned that, in order to reach the age of 100, one must work. This lady didn’t hesitate to voice her opinion about the placement of the plants in the planters.
  • From yet another resident: “I really enjoy gardening; it’s very enjoyable.”

A huge thanks to the Forget For A Moment Foundation for your help, involvement and support. Without you, this project would not have seen light of day.

We’re looking forward to working with you again when we have our beautiful green wall.
